001. Clean Up

Hi Jess,

The first step is to clean up some of VSupply’s social media accounts.

Here you can see that Google is providing users with the link to an old and unused Instagram profile for VSupply. This is the 3rd result when searching for “vsupply”.

And here you can see that Google is providing users with the link to an old and unused Facebook profile for VSupply. This is the 5th result when searching for “vsupply”.

We need to close these down. Users that follow these links to learn more about the business will see profiles that haven’t been updated in years and this will discourage them from engaging with VSupply. Furthermore, it is stopping the currently active social media accounts from being discovered.
– Do you still have access to these accounts?
– If not, do you still have access to the email address associated with these accounts?

Here you can see in the Google Business Profile that the Phone number is different to that on the website. Presumably this number is outdated?
– If that is the case, this needs to be updated to the current phone number.
Do you currently have access to the email address associated with VSupply’s Google Business Profile?

The Google Business Profile is also missing a link to the website.
– Assuming you have access to the Google Business Profile, please add the website address.

Google has recently added the ability to add links to social media profiles from the Google Business Profile.
– Assuming you have access to the Google Business Profile, please add links to the current Facebook and Instagram profiles.
You can do this by following these two steps.

I’ll leave it there for now. You can use the comment box below for discussion about any of this.

Thanks

  1. Hi Julian, I believe Evan has updated the phone number and web page on the Google Business Profile. Can you please confirm this?

As for the old FB and Insta pages, not sure we can access these. Is there any other way we can close them down??

    1. Hi Jess, Yes, I can see that the phone number and website address have been updated. Thanks.
Regarding closing down those accounts, without access to the e-mail address in which they were registered with it is unfortunately going to be difficult to solve this problem.

Firstly, we want to try to get Google’s algorithm to detect the current Facebook page rather than the old one.
The currently active Facebook account URL is:
      https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090240872148
We are going to want to set an easier address.
While logged in to Vsupply’s current Facebook profile, if you go to the following address:
      https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=profile
You should be able to update the username which will give a more search engine-friendly website address.

Something like “vsupplyaus”, “volumesupplyaus” etc. would be good.

Secondly, we need to assign the links to VSupply’s currently active social media profiles in the Google Business Profile. I gave instructions above, but it doesn’t appear to have been done yet.

Establishing this is important for encouraging Google’s algorithm to replace the old profile links.

(As an aside, there is at least one additional change that we’re going to have to make to that Google Business Profile a little later on. It is possible to assign multiple managers to a business profile, so perhaps it would be easier for Evan to assign you those permissions.)

Lastly, in addition to trying to illicit an update by Google’s algorithm, we can try to close the old Facebook account down by reporting it. The more accounts that report it, the more likely it is to be closed down.
So, what we want to do is to go to the old Facebook profile:
      https://www.facebook.com/Vsupplymel/
and click the three dots on the right, and then click “Find support or report”.
Then select “Pretending to be something”,
      Then select “A business”
Then type in and select “Volume Supply Pty Ltd”. You’ll know it’s the right one as it will say “79 people like this.”
Then lastly, click “Send” and “Done”.

After that, it’s in Facebook’s hands as to whether they close it down or not. And like I said, the more accounts that report it, the more likely it is to be closed down.
As for anything we can do to close down the old Instagram account, I’ll look into it and get back to you.

      Cheers

  2. Thanks Julian, I will see if Evan can give me access to the Google Business Profile to amend social media profiles.

I have updated the Facebook acct URL to read volumesupplyaus

I have also reported the old page as well.
